At Schoolhouse in the Woods, we understand the struggle that homeschooling families face in creating meaningful experiences for their children. Our founder, Ms. Elle, spent years working within traditional education, only to realize that the rigid structures of schools were not nurturing the spirit of children. She observed daily how the confines of a desk stripped the joy of learning from young minds. Children, she believed, need movement, invigorating hands-on experiences, and the freedom to explore—after all, academics alone do not make a well-rounded education.

In January 2022, Ms. Elle took the leap to establish Schoolhouse in the Woods. Starting with just 12 students, her vision was clear: to provide an alternative to the traditional education model that embraced hands-on learning and community support. Today, we are proud to serve over 120 children across two thriving locations in DeLeon Springs and Apopka, Florida, fostering a community where children learn crucial lost skills like archery, canoeing, navigation, and so much more, all within the warmth of their homeschooling peers.

As an AMS Certified Montessori teacher with many years of experience, Ms. Elle has poured her heart into creating a program that respects each child’s unique journey.
